Stormy Night - original drawing with a silver-plated appliqué
original ink drawing with a silver-plated moon
Quite a stormy night, a full moon and bats leaving their hideout, this seems the perfect beginning of a mysterious story...
Materials:
14,9 x 10 cm
* Fabriano Studio Watercolor Hot Press 15% cotton Paper, 300 g/m2
* Lefranc Bourgeois Nan-King India ink
* real silver leaf
* gilder's mass and ground, bole
The moon is plated with genuine silver leaf. I used a traditional technique for it, and it is made of a plaster-like material. Because it is very tiny, the process is a bit difficult and the gilding might have little red areas (that's were the surface called "bole" beneath shines through ). The silver has been left to oxidise a bit, so it has this loveley effect with the brownish tones. I stopped the oxidation by coating it with shellac, so it stays this way.
not vegan friendly, I used hideglue and shellac.
PLEASE NOTE
* You will need an "object frame" (with a distance between background and glass), because moon is several mm thick. For example you can use this frame.
* Do not bend the print too much and don't scratch of the silver surface. Handle with care.
